Over a Century of Craftsmanship and Tradition
HISTORY
Since our founding in 1913,
we have dedicated ourselves to the creation and distribution of quality
furniture and interior goods.
Through the steadfast support of our customers and retail partners,
we
have been able to continue our work across generations and proudly pass the milestone of our 100th
anniversary.
With renewed gratitude, we continue to listen to our customers and shape products for each era.
Here, we invite you to explore the first century of our history and the path that
has shaped who we are today.
-
1913

- The origins of Azumaya trace back to the craft of rattan weaving.
-
Founding Era
From the 1910s to the late 1950s
- Milestones of the Era
- During these early decades, our work centered on hand-crafted rattan products,
supplied primarily to the domestic market.
Even through the crisis surrounding World War II, we preserved our business by producing childcare goods and other necessities.
Major Events of
the Founding Era
- 1913: Teijiro Toya establishes "Azumaya To-Seihin-Ten" (Azumaya Rattan Goods Shop) in Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya.
- 1949: Sales office (wholesale division) opened in Yabacho, Naka-ku, Nagoya.
- Pre- and post-WWII (1930s–1940s): During periods of limited rattan imports, the
company produces baby strollers, children's tableware, cradles, and other essential goods.
Building on its rattan craftsmanship, production naturally expands into bamboo, wood, iron, and fabric. - Late 1950s: Import restrictions on rattan for civilian use were eased, leading to increased production and domestic demand.
This abacus dates back to our founding days.
When bookkeeping and calculations were done entirely by hand, it was an essential tool supporting our day-to-day business.
Today, it remains a symbol of the history we have built through skill and experience—before the digital age.
