  • 1913

    • The origins of Azumaya trace back to the craft of rattan weaving.
  • Founding Era

From the 1910s to the late 1950s

  • Milestones of the Era
  • During these early decades, our work centered on hand-crafted rattan products, supplied primarily to the domestic market.
Even through the crisis surrounding World War II, we preserved our business by producing childcare goods and other necessities.

Major Events of
the Founding Era

  • 1913: Teijiro Toya establishes "Azumaya To-Seihin-Ten" (Azumaya Rattan Goods Shop) in Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya.
  • 1949: Sales office (wholesale division) opened in Yabacho, Naka-ku, Nagoya.
  • Pre- and post-WWII (1930s–1940s): During periods of limited rattan imports, the company produces baby strollers, children's tableware, cradles, and other essential goods.
Building on its rattan craftsmanship, production naturally expands into bamboo, wood, iron, and fabric.
  • Late 1950s: Import restrictions on rattan for civilian use were eased, leading to increased production and domestic demand.
  • Growth Phase

From the 1960s to the early 1990s

  • Milestones of the Era
  • This era marked a strengthening of our business foundation, both domestically and internationally.
A new headquarters and distribution center reinforced our domestic operations, while expanding export opportunities supported company growth.

Major Events of
the Growth Era

  • 1964: Azumaya Co., Ltd. was incorporated.
  • 1966: Constructed the headquarters building in Kasumori, Nakamura-ku, Nagoya.
  • 1967: Opened the Kasumori Sales Office.
  • 1974: Built the Kasumori Distribution Center.
  • 1984–1986: Constructed the Fujimae Distribution Centers (No. 1–3) in Fujimae, Minato-ku, Nagoya, leading to:
    - stronger domestic logistics and increased competitiveness
    - the launch of new product lines
  • 1990

    • Expanding our cooperative framework across Southeast Asia.
  • Global Growth Era

From 1990 to the Present (as of 2025)

  • Milestones of the Era
  • During this period, we built strong partnerships with overseas factories, diversified our product lineup—including interior goods, outdoor equipment, and store fixtures—and expanded our sales network.

Major Events of
the Global Growth Era

  • 1998: Relocated our headquarters to Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya.
  • 2006: Constructed the second Akechi Distribution Center.
  • 2010: Moved our headquarters to a new building.
  • 2015: Built the third Akechi Distribution Center and expanded its site to approximately 7.6 hectares (18.8 acres).
Opened the Tokyo Sales Office in Minato-ku (relocated to Shinagawa-ku in 2021 with expanded operations).

As our product range continues to diversify—from interior goods to store fixtures, lighting, and outdoor equipment—we have established a global production network with partner factories in Indonesia, India, the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the United States. Business partnerships in Germany are also planned.
